Being part of a fashion reality show seems like a dream come true for many people. Of course, there are a lot of different elements about this that might not actually be as they seem, so it is important to do a little homework to make sure that you actually know what you are getting into before you get in over your head. Reality shows are designed to give people the ‘real’ life experience, but they stopped being very ‘real’ many years ago. After all, real life is boring. They have to inject some drama every now and again to keep viewers watching.
You should never sign up for a fashion reality show unless you know exactly what you are facing. Look at the premise of the show, check out the guidelines and regulations involved, and make sure that you don’t base your decision on what you see on television. The average reality show is an hour long. With commercials, you’re looking at a 40-42 minute episode, tops. Now most of the shows are filmed for 3-6 months at a time. If you have a season with an average of 10 shows, that’s only 420 minutes out of the entire ‘season’ that you’re actually seeing. It boils down to about 7 hours of footage that you actually see.
