This year, we can expect trends to focus on fit and quality rather than name-brands. You will want to look your best and that does not mean spending thousands of dollars to do so. Such items as pencil skirts (knee length or longer), hats, clutches, and feminine dressing will be in. Accessories such as thin belts and head scarves will also be all the rage. Colors such as lavender, green, and orange will be in with silver being the new neutral of choice. Things to avoid in 2008 will include things like peasant skirts, jersey knits, babydoll dresses, excessive black, super short skirts, and wicker shoes.

Some of the hottest fashion trends for 2008 projected include industrial fabrics, see-through clothes, fashion sneakers, and scarves. These items are on the “it” lists of many of the major fashion houses and magazines alike. Fabrics made with anti-microbial and rubberized materials are becoming increasingly popular and utilitarian. Additionally, organza, chiffon, and georgette are making a comeback for the Spring.

You should invest in a few of the latest fashion trends if you want to keep up with the fashion industry, but don’t forget the age-old staples that can save your closet (and your wallet) a lot of worry. Always make sure that you have a well-tailored classic trench coat, a stylish pair of flats (preferably in a black or a bold color like red), a cashmere sweater (in a vibrant color), a sexy camisole, a slimming A-line skirt, a good pair of jeans (or two), at least five supportive bras, a great suit, an evening clutch, a pair of sexy strappy high heels, and of course, the little black dress. As long as you have your closet stocked with these staples, you will be ready for day or night wear as many of them are so versatile they can go from the office to the evening out.

What began nine years ago as a tiny corner of the “Flea Market,” has grown to a full-scale boutique of e-Bay proportions. Thanks to variety, value, and unbelievable bargains, word of the boutique has spread quickly. It is now one of the most popular booths at the fair.

At first one display case was enough for the better jewelry. Now there are five. This year, fair-goers will find quality earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings, as well as costume jewelry and everything in between.

The rest of the booth will be devoted to scarves, purses, belts, gloves, sweaters, hats, hand mirrors, perfume bottles, and most surely a few surprises.

A special carton of 10-cent and 25-cent articles is always available for the children, with little bags and boxes for those who are buying gifts…

Jewelry Boutique Co-chairmen Dede Anderson and Nancy Odden are proud of their motto: “We treat every jewel as precious.” Before the fair, they put in weeks of washing and polishing. Everything is carefully examined — and if it warrants appraisal, it gets it. Even the broken pieces are sold at a special price to a puppeteer for her costumes…

The company’s gross profit as a percentage of net sales more than doubled to 15.9 percent, from 7 percent in 2006. Second quarter gross profit increased to $764,000, up from $174,000 in the same period of 2006.

For the first half of 2007, net sales more than doubled to $9.3 million compared to $3.8 million for the first half of 2006. Gross profit as a percentage of sales rose significantly to 13.6 percent from 4.8 percent year-over-year. First half gross profit was $1.3 million, up from $184,000 last year.
